On "traditional" advertising and word of mouth

There was a time when advertising was glamorous and brands were built 30 seconds at a time. In those days all you had to do to build your customer base was buy enough television and radio commercials. Getting a new customer was about as easy as getting their attention.

I remember that time. There's no denying it was fun and in a way easier to be in marketing. But those times are gone and those that truly embrace the way people behave today will have even more fun than before.

Shawn article hits the nail on the head. It's no longer about just doing a good ad, now you actually have to start with a great product and then figure out a way to reach your evangelists.
