New Year, New Look

I spent some time over the holidays working on the look of the site. I've moved it over to Squarespace V6 and it's now responsive. Try it out on an iPad and iPhone. I'm sure I'll continue to tweak things here and there, but I'm pretty happy with the result.

I've also moved the site to the .net version of the URL. It's now on disturbancesinthewash.net instead of dot com. I like the .net better and honestly it's a test to see what the impact is. I didn't do the whole 301 redirects, so we'll see what happens with natural search traffic. The old URL should redirect to this.

The RSS feed should not be impacted.

Please let me know.

OmniFocus for Mac and iPad on sale

OmniFocus-icon.png

I'm a big fan of OmniFocus. I've been using the Mac version for almost 4 years and bought the iPhone and iPad versions the moment they were released. These 3 apps keep my life organised.

Every time I explain to someone what OmniFocus is and how I use it, they're almost always impressed but typically say it's too expensive. Yes, all versions of OmniFocus cost more than the usual task management app, but there's good reason for it. They're the best.

If you've been on the fence, both Omnifocus for Mac and OmniFocus for iPad are on sale at 50% off right now (affiliate links).

Out of office reply

I got this out of office reply message from a coworker:

I am on annual leave and will return to the office on 4 January.

If you need me in this period, please send a carrier pigeon to the following coordinates 31° 26′ 0″ S, 152° 54′ 0″ E -31.433333, 152.9 and make sure he is plump and juicy as I will have ingredients on hand to make this tasty dish.

Funny.

The dancing lion

There's shit dancing around everywhere in Lion. Start writing an email and up flies the new message window; download something in Safari and whatever it is flies up toward the upper right corner; buy a new application on the Mac App Store and there goes the icon flying happily to the doc.

Animations are cool, but I think Apple might've taken it a step too far this time.

Welcome to Disturbances in the Wash

Welcome to the new look (and name) of my site.

If you're visiting today from my old site at www.gabrielponzanelli.net (where this content used to be), I'm genuinely glad you decided to come. As of right now, the content is exactly the same, so I suggest you subscribe to the RSS and dig around in the Archives to see what you've missed. I'll continue my normal posting shortly.

If, on the other hand, you're not an existing reader. You can find out a bit about me and what the site is about in the Colophon. Spending some time in the Archives is also a good thing.

Planned changes to the site next week

UPDATE: It's done. The site is now Disturbances in the Wash and no longer at the previous domain.

I've been a bit slack with updates to this site the last couple of weeks. Although I have been writing quite a bit, I've refrained from posting much because I was toying around with the idea of changing the name of the website. I wrote about this last month, and I think I've finally come to the conclusion that I need to do so. It's just too confusing having a dot-com and a dot-net for such different topics.

About 3 years ago I started a website on www.gabrielponzanelli.com to showcase my photography. For some reason I kept the dot-net URL parked and when I decided I wanted to start this site it seemed easy enough to drop it on the dot-net. Well, after about 5 months I now think it wasn't a great decision. As I said, it's confusing. Not only for myself, but most importantly, for the readers.

So, next week I'm transferring this site to www.disturbancesinthewash.com and I'll eventually redirect www.gabrielponzanelli.net over to its dot-com namesake.

I will post one final entry here when it's all done. If you're an RSS subscriber, please subscribe to the new feed. I'll post the details in the final entry next week.

Apologies for the inconvenience. I know it's a pain, but I just need to do it.

Lion is here

OS X Lion is here and I'm guessing that was the reason the Apple Store was down an hour ago.

I considered downloading the pre-release version a few months ago but was just way too busy to spend time on it and deal with the potential issues of an unreleased product. So I'll be downloading it for the first time tomorrow. It's past 11pm where I live and I know if I start playing with it now I won't sleep. So tomorrow it is.
